Srinagar is located at Kashmir valley near both sides of Jhelum River in the state of Jammu and Kashmir of India. The two parts of the city are connected through the famous nine bridges. With the other attractions in Kashmir, Dal Lake is also known as “Jewel in the crown of Kashmir” or simply “Srinagar s Jewel”. This marathon long lake covers 15.5 kilometers length and 18 sq km area in Srinagar, covering Mughal era gardens, and parks, on and at the banks of the lake. And the lake journey ignites the beauty of the lake which seems to be decorated with the housing boats and lotus flowers. On the way you are welcomed by the nature through the blossom lotus of the floating gardens. To experience this welcome by nature, you need to plan your Srinagar trip in the months of July and August. This wetland is divided into four ways which is worth experiencing the scenic view. Dal lake is surrounded by beautiful greenery throughout the lake.
The house boats in Srinagar are stationary, which are also rented for you. These wood made boats range from a single room to three bed roomed with kitchen apartment size. The charges are generally including the rent of the boat, food and free rides.
Though these are Mughal gardens, you find them more influenced and dominated by the Persian style. The beauty of Mughal gardens is extremely appended with pools, fountains and canals. The most important element of this garden is the running water and the other attractions being pools which are so transparent to reflect the beauty of garden and sky. The garden is enriched with the various sorts of trees like sweet smelling fruit trees, shady trees, flower trees, above the wild grown grass with the background songs by numerous birds on trees and a pleasant breeze touching directly deep into your soul.
Nishat Bagh which is also known as Garden of Joy, Garden of Delight and Garden of Gladness, is a terraced Mughal Garden , which is located near Dal Lake. It is the second largest Mughal Gardens in the Kashmir Valley. This garden which was designed and built in 1633 is sometimes snow capped and makes us experience great magnificent view of the lake in it. The 12 terraces of this place are built representing 12 zodiac signs and are differentiated in their designs and architecture. Nishat Bagh is just 11 km away from Srinagar.
This is the first largest Mughal Garden designed and built by Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan, in the year 1619. Shalimar Bagh is close to Dal Lake. This place has been the best example of Mughal horticulture. This garden consists of three major terraces with the frequent visits of 410 fountains in it. Ancient beautiful stone works mesmerize us with the profound expertise. The unique feature of this Bagh, chini khanas is behind the garden waterfalls and should not be missed. These chinni khanas must be visited in the nights for their glorious views waterfalls, lighted by oil lamps. This garden gives heavenly experience during the spring and autumn seasons.
Recent attraction, Tulip gardens
The tulip gardens which are recently added into the attraction list of Srinagar. Numerous bunches of tulips mesmerize with colourful magic deep into the souls.
The other interesting attractions worth visiting in Srinagar include Chashma Shahi (the royal fountains and Pari Mahal, which is a palace for fairies.
