Kashmir, which was a valley before, now is recognized as the coolest place with very little pollution in India. If your basic nature is adventurous, this snow capped mountain place gives the best thrilling experience to your daring and challenging attitude. Gulmarg, seems to be hidden inside great Himalayas, and is also addresses the border of India, and close to Line of Control between India and Pakistan.

It was previously named as Gourimarg, which is the way of Lord Shiva’s wife and later it has been changed to Gulmarg, which means ‘place of roses’. Gulmarg, being the  favourite summer holiday destination for the British, in previous century, has been the most thrilling ski resort especially in the winter. Afarwat hills is one of the longest and highest ski slopes in Asia, with an altitude of 3950m. This key tourist attraction, has good hit of tourists in its season from December to March. This is the heart land of winter sports in India. You can experience the longest rope way journey in the highest cable car in the world. Gulmarg attracts the tourists in summer also for its world class golfing, trekking, mountain biking, horse riding, water skiing and fishing. You can find the world’s highest green golf courses here and also can play with temporary membership.


This is the world famous hill station which is located near the banks of river Lidda and welcomes for its natural beauty. This had been favourite spot for Bollywood, and is very close to Amarnath temple, famous for ice Shivling, which is naturally formed in Amarnath caves. Pahalgam wildlife sanctuary is another major attraction over here.

Various animal species and birds which are resident and migratory, are special attractions, and sometimes need better protection for yourself from them. Kolhoi Glacier is a hanging glacier, which is worth visiting place. Another worth visiting place here is Betaab valley which is just 15 km from Pahalgam. This beautiful valley is surrounded by lury green meadows, snow clad mountains and is also well covered with rich vegetation.

An important and worth visiting place in Pahalgam include the Pahalgam valley.


Sonmarg is yet another hill station in Ganderbal district in Kashmir. The important tourist area in this place is sonmarg alpine valley which is situated at the bank of Nallah Sindh, near Jehlum river. Sonmarg is open for road in late April and road itself welcomes with white carpet of snow. You can enjoy a joyful trip with your loved ones with a trip on ponies. Thajiwas glacier is the attraction during summer. Anyways this place is accessible in summer rather than winter due to heavy snow fall. A little rain fall is quite frequent almost throughout your stay, which nourishes your soul with cool, white snow balls showering your body and soul.

Trekking can be the best time passing and challenging thing here and the trekking connects the places of Vishansar Lake, Krishansar Lake, Gangabal Lake and Gadsar Lake. The alpine flowers hello you in between your journey of trekking. The ultimate destination for most of trek lovers is the roof-top of the world, Leh. If you are a river rafter, you can participate in the river rafting tournaments conducted every year by the tourism department. The participants come from across the borders of country and contest in it.
